Ben Foster insists that West Bromwich Albion are focused on Premier League survival despite climbing to fifth place in the Premier League with victory over Southampton.

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster has insisted that Premier League survival remains his number one target this season.

The Baggies continued their strong start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Southampton on Tuesday night.

A brace from Peter Odemwingie helped West Brom climb to fifth in the Premier League, with Steve Clarke's side amassing 17 points from their opening 10 matches.

Foster is adamant that despite making an impressive start to the season, the Baggies must secure their top-flight status before having any further ambitions.

He told Sky Sports News after victory over Saints: "It's a cliche but we are really not getting carried away. We are taking each game as it comes and we will just see where it goes.

"For the majority of the table I think there are 14 odd teams probably hoping to get to the 40-point mark and take it from there and we're no different. We will get to that 40-point mark as soon as possible and see what games we have left.

"I am really happy to get the clean sheet as we have been conceding some really unlucky goals recently and it is great to get back winning ways and keep a clean sheet too."

Foster has enjoyed a fine run of form at The Hawthorns this season, conceding just four goals despite playing against Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in the early weeks of the campaign.
