West Ham United to reduce ticket prices following TV rights deal

West Ham United become the first Premier League club to reduce ticket prices following the bumper TV rights deal.

West Ham United have become the first Premier League club to announce a price cut on season tickets following the record-breaking television rights deal.

Sky and BT Sport will pay £5.13bn to televise top-flight matches for three seasons from 2016-17, when the Hammers' price reduction will kick in.

West Ham's least expensive adult season ticket will cost £289 under the new pricing scheme, down from between £620 and £940 this season.

"We have always said that the move to our magnificent new stadium would be a game changer for West Ham," said the club's vice-chairwoman Karren Brady in a statement.

"It was a chance to increase revenue, invest in the team and improve our performance on the pitch, but without putting an extra financial burden on the supporters who already come to watch every home match.

"This announcement proves we have kept our promise."

The 2016-17 campaign will mark West Ham's first season at the Olympic Stadium, which has 19,000 more seats than current ground Upton Park.

The new pricing structure is dependent on the club playing in the Premier League that season.
