England winger Jack Nowell has been ruled out of the team's summer tour to New Zealand in order to undergo knee surgery.
The 21-year-old, who plays his club rugby for Exeter Chiefs, will also have a shoulder injury assessed ahead of the new season.
Nowell started all five of England's games in this year's Six Nations, with his senior international debut coming in an opening-weekend defeat to France.
The youngster's absence could see a return to the squad for Chris Ashton, who has been frozen out of the England setup during the past 12 months.
England get their three-Test series against the All Blacks underway in Auckland on June 7.
