Tom Wood has been ruled out of the first two matches of England's Six Nations campaign with a toe injury.
There were fears that the England flanker would be sidelined for a number of weeks due to a problem with his big toe.
A combined statement from England and Northampton Saints said: "Following a specialist consultation yesterday Tom Wood will wear a protective boot on his left foot for four weeks to allow the injury to his big toe to recover.
"Northampton Saints and England medics will in the meantime work to treat Tom to monitor his recovery."
The 25-year-old, who was tipped to be named captain for the competition, will miss England's matches against Scotland and Italy.
