Wasps edge out Exeter Chiefs in Premiership clash

The home side took the lead in the first minute when Nathan Hughes did well to find Christian Wade down the right and the winger went over under pressure in the corner

Exeter hit back almost immediately as Will Chudley found space in the line and bustled through the gap to run all the way for the score, which was converted to tie the game.

Elliot Daly put Wasps back in the lead with a penalty, but the visitors found parity again when Henry Slade kicked over from close range.

Goode and Slade exchanged kicks, but the home side pulled ahead by three points as the break approached.

Matters got better for Wasps just before the whistle as they exerted huge pressure on Exeter deep in their half and were rewarded with a penalty try.

The home side extended their lead to 13 points in the second half through the boot of Goode, but the Chiefs rallied through a score from Thomas Waldrom as he powered over the line from close range. Slade then brought the visitors within three points with an impressive kick from distance.

However, Wasps sealed their win in the 76th minute when Joe Simpson raced 70m downfield with a mazy run to score a converted try which made redundant a late penalty from Gareth Steenson.
