Defending champion Andy Murray has suffered a surprise defeat to world number 38 Jeremy Chardy in the third round of the Cincinnati Open.
The Olympic gold medallist failed to convert his one break point opportunity before he was beaten 4-6 in the first set.
Both players dropped the opening five service games between them in the second, but Frenchman Chardy came out on top 6-4 to cause one of the upsets of the tournament.
Chardy's reward for knocking out Murray is a quarter-final clash with sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro.
