Former world number 15 Juan Ignacio Chela announces his retirement from professional tennis after a 14-year career.

Former world number 15 Juan Ignacio Chela has announced his retirement from professional tennis.

The 33-year-old picked up six ATP Tour singles titles and three doubles titles during his 14-year career. He also reached the quarter-finals of the French Open on two separate occasions.

"After many years it was time to move to another stage in my life, I retire from professional tennis," the Argentine tweeted.

Chela, who was ranked 176th in the world before his retirement, was fined for spitting at former world number one Lleyton Hewitt during an Australian Open match in 2005.
