World number seven David Ferrer was knocked out of the Japan Open by his fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers courtesy of a 4-6 6-4 6-4 scoreline earlier today.
Ferrer, who recently parted company with his coach Francisco Altur, claimed the opening set in 45 minutes.
However, Granollers rallied in the next two sets to record his first ever victory over his compatriot in six attempts.
After the match, Ferrer told reporters: "I lost my focus in the second set. I have not been playing well recently and have got on a bad run of result."
Granollers will now take on American Steve Johnson for a place in the third round of the competition.
