Dan Evans has started his quest for back-to-back second-tier titles with a straight-sets win against Bjorn Fratangelo at the Champaign Challenger.
On Sunday, Evans ensured that he returned to the world's top 200 with victory over Frances Tiafoe in the final of the Knoxville Challenger, and 48 hours later he was in the last 16 at another event after easing past his American opponent.
Evans had defeated Fratangelo 6-4 7-6 in the quarter-finals last week, but he made even lighter work of the world number 128 on Tuesday, breaking serve four times on the way to a 6-3 6-3 triumph.
The 25-year-old, who has missed out on selection for the Great Britain squad ahead of next week's Davis Cup final, will now play 18-year-old American Taylor Fritz for a place in the last eight.
However, Liam Broady lost out to eighth seed Blaz Rola in the opening round, going down by a 6-3 6-3 scoreline.
