Thirteenth seed Kevin Anderson has progressed into the third round of the Shanghai Masters with a 6-3 7-6[1] victory over Fabio Fognini.
It was a tight opening set with games going by the way of serve, but Anderson was able to make the breakthrough in the sixth game to go 4-2 up.
Fognini struggled to create any break-point opportunities of his own as Anderson kept the pressure on and eventually took a one-set lead in China.
In 12 games in the second set, neither competitor managed to create a break point and the contest was destined for a tie-break.
Anderson started off the better of the two as he broke twice in quick succession to take a 4-1 lead before eventually wrapping up the breaker and the match.
