Denis Kudla keen to make USA "proud"

Denis Kudla admits that he is keen to make America proud when he faces ninth seed Marin Cilic in the fourth round at Wimbledon on Monday.

Denis Kudla has revealed that he is carrying a lot of confidence into his Wimbledon fourth-round encounter with Marin Cilic.

Kudla is the lowest-ranked player left in the men's draw, as well as being the only American to reach the second week, but the world number 105 has revealed that he has been boosted by his performances in challenger events at Ilkley and Surbiton.

The 22-year-old told the ATP Tour official website: "I have a lot of confidence in myself after playing so well on grass coming into the tournament. I've always had good results on grass and felt really comfortable on it. It suits my game better than any other surface.

"Being the last American standing and having the opportunity to represent our great country is obviously very special and I hope that I can make the USA proud."

Before this year's Wimbledon, Kudla had never got past the second round of a Grand Slam, while he had only won two matches on the ATP Tour since January.
