Victoria Azarenka recovers to overcome Heather Watson

Victoria Azarenka recovers from a set down in her third-round Wimbledon clash with Heather Watson, coming out on top 3-6 6-1 6-4 on Centre Court.

Heather Watson has become the latest British hopeful to fall at the third-round hurdle at Wimbledon following defeat to Victoria Azarenka in three sets.

The 25-year-old produced an impressive display to stun 18th seed Anastasia Sevastova in the previous round, but she fell short in Friday afternoon's meeting with Azarenka.

Watson went down 6-3 1-6 4-6 on Centre Court, missing out on a potential showdown with second seed Simona Halep in round four.

Things started badly for Azarenka, who twice lost her break of serve in the opening set to fall behind, but she battled back well in the second set by earning the only breaks in the second and sixth games to pave the way for a decider.

A gripping seventh game saw Azarenka eventually earn the point against the serve, only for the home favourite to hit back immediately in the following game.

Watson did not quite have enough in the tank as her opponent took the next two games, seeing her go the same way as Aljaz Bedene who lost to Gilles Muller earlier in the day to leave two Brits standing at Wimbledon.
