World number one Maria Sharapova moved into the second round of Wimbledon this afternoon courtesy of a 6-2 6-3 win over Anastasia Rodionova.
The 25-year-old accelerated out of the blocks on Centre Court to open up a 5-0 lead in the opening set. During that stint Australia's Rodionova was only able to record three points.
However, she responded by holding her next service game, before going on to break Sharapova's serve.
She failed to build upon that success though as Sharapova broke for a third time shortly after to wrap up a one-set advantage.
Both players held their opening service games at the start of the second set.
Sharapova secured the decisive break during Rodionova's next service game though to open up a 3-1 lead. The Russian went on to dominate the set, dropping just two more game on her way to booking her place in round two.
Sharapova previously lifted the trophy at SW19 back in 2004.
