AC Milan hit back to hold Sampdoria

Alfred Duncan's own goal gifts AC Milan a point as the home side earn a 1-1 draw against Sampdoria at the San Siro.

Alfred Duncan's own goal handed AC Milan a point as the hosts fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Sampdoria at the San Siro tonight.

Marco van Ginkel threatened on two occasions early in the match as he forced Emiliano Viviano into a decent save before sending a speculative effort just past the post a few moments later.

Despite looking comfortable in possession, Sampdoria continued to offer opportunities to the hosts, with only a stunning save from Viviano preventing Mattia Destro from breaking the deadlock with a firm header.

Stefano Okaka went closest for the visitors in the first half when he dragged a shot wide from the edge of the box, before Viviano came to the rescue once again to get a strong hand to Alessio Cerci's strike.

Sampdoria started the second half brightly, and they came close to the opening goal when Diego Lopez pushed Eder's free kick past the post.

However, the Milan goalkeeper couldn't stop the visitors from taking the lead just before the hour mark when Samuel Eto'o picked out Roberto Soriano, who kept his composure to curl the ball into the bottom corner.

Filippo Inzaghi's side enjoyed plenty of possession after falling behind, but chances were difficult to come by as the Sampdoria defence impressed for long spells.

However, it was a defensive error which gifted the hosts an equaliser as Duncan inadvertently sent the ball into his own net as he attempted to clear Nigel De Jong's tame bicycle kick.

Milan could have snatched the win late on, but substitute Suso was left disappointed when he could only rattle the post with a curled effort from the corner of the box.
