Roy Hodgson: 'Jordan Henderson, Jack Wilshere have proved fitness'

England manager Roy Hodgson hints that both Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere will be in his final 23-man squad for Euro 2016 having proved their fitness.

England manager Roy Hodgson has hinted that both Jordan Henderson and Jack Wilshere will be in his squad for Euro 2016 this summer.

Both players were lacking match practice when they joined up with the England team, and Hodgson had previously suggested that question marks over the duo's fitness was the reason behind him naming a preliminary 26-man squad.

However, they have both come through friendlies against Turkey and Australia unscathed, and Hodgson believes that their fitness will only improve over the coming weeks.

"I don't think it's fitness dependent (with them). We've had two matches and plenty of training matches so wouldn't be using that as an excuse," he told ITV Sport.

"Both have proved, with their performances in training and by getting through one-and-a-half games, they are ready and will be more ready as we move forward."

Henderson made his first start since the opening week of April in this evening's 2-1 win over Australia, while Wilshere has made just three starts all season for club and country.

Hodgson must name his final 23-man squad for the tournament by May 31.
