Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that the decision to sign Lukas Podolski was "an obvious choice".
The Frenchman, who confirmed the signing earlier this week, insists that the German striker will prove to be a well-rounded forward for the Gunners when he arrives at the club at the end of the season.
"He is a striker, we like them," said Wenger.
"He is technically gifted, he can play through the middle and through the flanks, he is adaptable, can create goals and make goals.
"That for me was an obvious choice. He is left-footed as well and that for me is interesting. We were in touch with him for a long, long time."
Podolski has scored 18 goals in 28 appearances for Cologne this season.
