Arsenal defender William Saliba is reportedly determined to fight for his place in Mikel Arteta's side when he returns from his loan spell at Marseille.

William Saliba is reportedly determined to fight for his spot in the Arsenal team once his loan spell at Marseille comes to an end.

The 20-year-old has been restricted to eight appearances for the Gunners' Under-23s since making the move to North London, only getting as far as the bench with regards to a first-team place.

Saliba has been shipped out on loan to Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille amid his struggles in North London, and the defender has become a regular fixture in Jorge Sampaoli's side this term.

A recent report stated that Arsenal were considering cashing in on Saliba in 2022, but The Telegraph now claims that the Frenchman is desperate to prove his worth to Mikel Arteta.

The report adds that Saliba is set to begin English lessons ahead of his return and is also in regular contact with the rest of the Arsenal squad while he plies his trade in Marseille, with Arteta previously hinting that there would be room for the youngster in the team next term.

Saliba has started 14 games for Marseille in all tournaments this season, and his contract with Arsenal is not due to expire until 2024.
