Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger 'to enter Gonzalo Higuain talks'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will reportedly meet with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis this week to discuss a big-money move for striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will reportedly meet with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis this week to discuss a potential move for striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The Gunners have been linked with a big-money move for a striker this summer after the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott struggled at times during the 2015-16 campaign.

Italian media outlet RaiSport claims that they have made Higuain their number one target after the Argentina international scored 36 Serie A goals last season, equalling the all-time record set in 1928-29.

The report goes on to say that Arsenal have offered Napoli €50m (£42.2m) plus Giroud for the 28-year-old, in addition to offering the player a four-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger will reportedly meet with Napoli officials, including Laurentiis, in London on Thursday, with the Italian outfit understood to be seriously considering the offer.

Higuain moved to the San Paolo from Real Madrid in 2013 and has gone on to score 91 goals in 146 appearances for the club.
