West Ham United full-back Ben Johnson has reportedly turned down a six-and-a-half-year contract offer to extend his stay with the club.

The 22-year-old's current deal is set to expire in the summer, with both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur allegedly keeping a close eye on his situation in East London.

According to The Athletic, West Ham presented a new and improved contract offer to Johnson and his representatives, but both parties have failed to come to an agreement.

The report adds that the Hammers now intend to activate a two-year extension clause in Johnson's contract, which would tie him down to the London Stadium until the summer of 2024.

Johnson is believed to be happy at West Ham, but plans to consider re-entering negotiations in a year's time when he has around 18 months remaining on his contract.

The defender, who has been with the East Londoners since the age of seven, has established himself as a first-team regular under David Moyes this season, featuring in 21 games across all competitions.
