Report: Aston Villa want British manager to succeed Remi Garde

Aston Villa are reportedly keen to appoint a British manager as Remi Garde's successor.

Aston Villa are reportedly keen on hiring a British manager to succeed Remi Garde, who left the club last night.

The Premier League outfit confirmed on Tuesday evening that it was mutually agreed for Garde to leave Villa Park following a disastrous spell.

The Frenchman was appointed by Villa in November, but failed to turn around their poor season as the club are currently rooted to the bottom of the league table, 12 points from safety with seven games left to play.

According to BBC Sport, it is the board's priority to appoint an English manager as they look set for life in the Championship next season.

Out-of-work coaches David Moyes and Nigel Pearson have been linked to the position, while Burnley boss Sean Dyche is also believed to be a candidate.

Brian Little, who recently joined the board of directors at Villa, is expected to play a major role in choosing a new manager.
