Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has warned Jack Grealish that he must deliver consistently for his club before thinking about playing for England.
The 20-year-old winger has this week signalled his intention to represent the Three Lions rather than the Republic of Ireland at international level.
Sherwood has said that he wants to see Grealish continue to improve his game to force his way into the national reckoning.
"It's good news for England," Sherwood told Villa's official website. "Obviously, hopefully Jack has cleared his mind now.
"We're looking for some improved performances from him now on the pitch so those international managers are very excited and choose to pick him.
"He's got a lot of competition there so he needs to make sure that he is playing well for Aston Villa - and we're sure he will."
Grealish won 19 caps for Ireland at youth level before choosing to play for England.
