Former Brazil left-back Junior has backed Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis to gain a spot in Luiz Felipe Scolari's squad for the World Cup this summer.
Luis has made just four appearances for his country, but has been one of the most consistent left-backs in European football this season.
"Felipe is at a very high level. I've seen him recently and his performances have been very good," Junior, who played for Brazil at the 1982 World Cup, told AS.
"I think the level he is showing now is not the one we saw in his last appearances with the national team. He didn't take his chance but things have changed.
"Scolari is not unfair and he certainly already has eyes on Filipe. I think he has to be among the options. Everyone is watching him. I think he probably will go to the World Cup. But it's worth mentioning that performances are relative."
Luis has helped Atletico to the top of La Liga and into the semi-finals of the Champions League this season.
