Halil Altintop scores twice in Augsburg win

Halil Antintop is the difference for Augsburg as they beat Hoffenheim 2-0 in the Bundesliga.

Halil Altintop has scored both goals as Augsburg beat Hoffenheim following a strong first half.

The first chance of the game came for the away team, but Roberto Firmino's shot from a tight angle was saved comfortably by Marvin Hitz.

Augsburg began to get on top of the game and Tobias Werner came close with a drive from just outside the box, but his shot fizzed narrowly over.

Then they got ahead after 17 minutes as Halil Altintop finished off a move from close range before Anthony Modeste shot just wide immediately from the restart.

Then on 23 minutes the hosts doubled their lead through Altintop again as he was well found by Paul Verhaegh and finished low into the bottom corner.

Modeste had a chance to pull one back with 10 minutes of the first half left, but his shot from the centre of the box was straight down the throat of Hitz.

Augsburg remained on top through the second half and almost made it three when Daniel Baier shot narrowly over the bar.

Just before the whistle blew, Modeste summed up his side's game with a wayward effort from more than 30 yards.
