Javier Mascherano hits out at media 'lies'

Barcelona centre-back Javier Mascherano insists that there has never been an issue between Lionel Messi and head coach Luis Enrique.

Barcelona centre-back Javier Mascherano has claimed that reported problems at the Camp Nou have been fabricated by the media.

It has been speculated that Lionel Messi could seek pastures new due to his strained relationship with head coach Luis Enrique, but Mascherano has insisted that there is no problem between the pair.

"The truth is that everything that's been said Messi and Luis Enrique, over these past several days, is a lie. What they said happened...didn't happen," Mascherano told BarcaTV.

"It must hurt Messi when these things come out. If no sources are mentioned, things always stay unclear. Press every day talks less about football, sensationalism sells. It's very easy to claim something and say it comes from a source inside the dressing room. People should be more responsible.

"Everything is magnified with a team like ours, but there are absolutely no problems. We always abide by the manager's decisions."

Following Sunday's 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid, Messi also rubbished reports linking him with a move away from the Camp Nou.
