Jose Antonio Bosch: 'Pepe Mel stays'

Real Betis director Jose Antonio Bosch denies that manager Pepe Mel's position is in doubt.

Real Betis director Jose Antonio Bosch has insisted that Pepe Mel's position as manager is not in doubt.

It had been suggested that the Spanish club could relieve Mel of his duties after a poor start to the season, which has left them bottom of La Liga.

"Who is to blame? For me, any liability for better or worse starts with the board, then the sporting director, then the coach and then the players," he told AS.

"What happens is that when you do well, the pyramid is usually reversed - it starts with the players. Will anyone pay for this? This is the Titanic but without a lifeboat. We could save everyone or we all sink. Apart from that, Mel is the coach who for us is the best in the world.

"We have enough slack to understand that the relationship with the coach is free. For how long? The project with Mel will be for four seasons."

Mel has been with Betis since 2010.
