Bolton Wanderers appoint Phil Parkinson as new manager

Bolton Wanderers appoint Phil Parkinson as the club's new manager after agreeing a compensation deal with Bradford City.

Bolton Wanderers have announced the appointment of Phil Parkinson as the club's new manager.

The 48-year-old, who has left Bradford City to take on the role at the Macron Stadium, has signed a two-year deal.

Bolton have been hunting for a new permanent boss following the departure of Neil Lennon in March, two months before the club dropped into League One from the Championship.

Parkinson arrives at the club after Bolton and Bradford, who also play in the third tier of English football, agreed a compensation package.

The former Southampton footballer has also had managerial spells at Colchester United, Hull City and Charlton Athletic.

Parkinson earned promotion to the Championship with Colchester in the 2005-06 season, and guided Bradford to League One with a playoff win seven years later.

Steve Parkin has been confirmed as Parkinson's assistant manager.
