Fixating on Forrest a recipe for disaster against Celtic, says Martin Canning

The Scotland star has scored 12 times in 11 games for club and country.

Hamilton boss Martin Canning insists he will not be targeting James Forrest for special attention when his side host Celtic on Saturday, despite the winger's hat-trick heroics for Scotland.

Forrest is in the form of his life, having netted 12 goals in his last 11 games for club and country.

He scored his first international goals with a brace against Albania on Saturday, then followed that up with another stunning treble in Tuesday night's Nations League win over Israel to guarantee Alex McLeish's side a place in the European Championship play-offs.

But Canning knows he has more than just Forrest to worry about as his team prepare to welcome the Hoops to the Hope Stadium this weekend.

And that is why the Accies boss says there is no point trying to double up on the in-form wide man.

"How do you stop someone like Forrest? Well when you start thinking about how to stop one player, they have got another three who can hurt you," he said.

"Celtic are a top team with top players all over the pitch. You have got to give them respect and make sure you are organised.

"Our players need to understand what we're trying to do and then go out and try to do their job properly as individuals.

"If you start saying, 'Right, when Forrest gets the ball, get two or three or even four round about him', all he needs to do is pass the ball to Tom Rogic and he will go score.

"Stopping these guys is a difficult thing to do but that is why they are top international players, because they pose opposition teams a lot of problems."
