Tony Pulis hails Dwight Gayle improvement

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis praises Dwight Gayle for the improvements he has made this season.

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis has praised Dwight Gayle for the improvements he has made this season.

The 24-year-old scored twice as Palace ended the season with a 2-2 draw against Fulham on Sunday.

Gayle became the club's record signing last summer when he joined from Peterborough United, and despite initially struggling to adapt to the Premier League, he has scored four goals in his last two games.

"When I first came to the club Dwight was the marquee signing. We'd spent a lot of money on him and it looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders in lots of respects," he told the club's official website.

"He wasn't really integrated into the group and he looked a bit on the fringes, so we spent a lot of time opening him up as a person and a player.

"He's become a lot closer to the group and his mates in the dressing room. He didn't need the pressure, we took that away from him and he's improved immensely."

Today's result ensured that the Eagles finished the season 11th in the Premier League table.
