Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard are omitted from England's squad to face Montenegro on Friday.

Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard have been omitted from Fabio Capello's England squad for their Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro through injury.

Ferdinand has been struggling with a hamstring problem, while Gerrard has only recently returned for Liverpool following six months out with a groin injury.

Meanwhile, Fulham striker Bobby Zamora and Bursaspor goalkeeper Scott Carson have been given recalls.

Manchester United defender Phil Jones is included in the squad, while club teammate Danny Welbeck has been rewarded for his recent goals with a place in the setup.

England need a point in Podgorica on Friday to secure their place in next year's tournament.
