Felipe Caicedo netted a dramatic last-minute winner as Espanyol saw off Celta Vigo in a battle between two of La Liga's mid-table sides this evening.
The hosts dominated possession and created early chances for Sergio Garcia and Lucas Vazquez, neither of whom managed to hit the target but were almost made to pay for their wastefulness.
It took Celta Vigo 51 minutes to stage a purposeful attack, but Joaquin Larrivey's effort from inside the box would have found its way into the bottom corner had Francisco Casilla not met it with a good save.
Larrivey came close for a second time just after the hour, latching on to Nolito's through-ball and racing into the area only to be thwarted again by the onrushing Casilla.
Although the visitors had some gilt-edged chances in the second period, a draw would have been an unfair reflection of the match as Espanyol claimed more possession and created more in the final third.
They got the breakthrough they deserved in the 90th minute as Caicedo found space inside the box and fired a low effort into the centre of goal, sending the home support into raptures and breaking Celta hearts.
The last-gasp win moves Espanyol up to ninth in the table, two points better off than their opponents in 11th.
