Claudio Ranieri 'never doubted' Jamie Vardy after goalless start

Claudio Ranieri insists that the "goalscorer will always score a goal" in reference to Jamie Vardy, who got off the mark at the third time of asking on Saturday.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has praised Jamie Vardy for his performance against Swansea City and claimed that he never had any doubt his leading marksman would quickly re-find his scoring touch.

The England international failed to get off the mark for the Foxes in their first two Premier League games, which ultimately ended in disappointment with one point taken from a possible six.

Vardy returned to the scoring trail with a trademark finish in the 2-1 win over Swansea on Saturday afternoon, however, racing onto a Danny Drinkwater through-ball and belting the ball home when one on one to vindicate his manager's early-season faith.

"The goalscorer will always score a goal," Ranieri told the club's official website. "Of course, some seasons, it is a little more and some a little less but never, never [will] the goalscorer forget the way to goal.

"Of course it is important to score a goal for the strikers, because it is their life. For me the most important thing was the performance and Jamie pressed a lot with his teammates."

Vardy scored 24 league goals for Leicester in their title-winning campaign of 2015-16, finishing level with Sergio Aguero in the scoring charts and one behind international teammate Harry Kane.
