Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in a bid to bolster their options in the middle of the pitch.
The Serbian is out of contract at the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2024, meaning Lazio could be less inclined to hold on to him at the end of the season as they have done in previous years.
With James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all out of contract at Anfield this summer, Jurgen Klopp is expected to be in the market for midfielders.
The Daily Mail claim that Milinkovic-Savic could be the man they turn to after news broke earlier this week that a move for Jude Bellingham now appears unlikely due to the fee that would be needed to sign the Borussia Dortmund man.
A report in Italian outlet Calciomercato claims that Lazio will listen to offers of around £44m for Milinkovic-Savic when the transfer window reopens, as the player has yet to extend his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
Klopp is said to be looking at improvements to his squad in order for them to be in the Premier League title mix again next season, having faltered this season with top four the only remaining possibility for the Reds.
Milinkovic-Savic has been a crucial player for Lazio during his eight years at the club, scoring in their victorious 2019 Coppa Italia final as well as taking on captaincy duties in Ciro Immobile's absence this season.
