Roberto Mancini claims that Manchester City earned their place in the next round of the Europa League.

Roberto Mancini has said that his side were deserved winners after beating Porto 4-0 in the Europa League at the Etihad Stadium last night.

Sergio Aguero opened the scoring in the first minute, before Edin Dzeko, David Silva and debutant David Pizarro all added to the hosts' total in the final 15 minutes to send the Citizens through to the next round of the competition.

"We needed a good win," he told the club's official website. "Porto are one of the best teams in Europe, but I think that we deserved to go through.

"It was important to score first, but afterwards it was difficult because Porto did well. Porto can control the game and keep the ball, but we had a lot of chances to score."

Meanwhile, the Manchester outfit remain two points clear at the top of the Premier League.
