David Silva "very happy" under Pep Guardiola

Manchester City playmaker David Silva says that he is "very happy" playing in a slightly deeper role under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City playmaker David Silva has said that he is "very happy" with his role under manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola has hit the ground running since his switch to English football, winning his first 10 games in charge of the club to quickly climb to the top of the Premier League table.

City have also been free-scoring in that time despite Silva dropping into a slightly deeper role, and the Spaniard is enjoying his new position.

"The way of playing the boss wants is to control the game, create chances in front of goal and control the rival team," Silva told the Manchester Evening News.

"I'm playing some steps further back sometimes because I have to help in the build-up but Guardiola also gives me freedom to attack and be close to the rival goal.

"He wants me to create chances, that's something I really like. He gives me a lot of freedom and I'm very happy in this role. The team, too, stays confident."

City's form has dipped in their last two games, with a draw against Celtic being followed by defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
