Yaya Toure: 'I stayed at Manchester City because of Manuel Pellegrini'

Yaya Toure reveals that he stayed at Manchester City largely because of manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Yaya Toure has revealed that the reason behind his decision to stay at Manchester City in the summer was his relationship with manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The Ivorian was considering pastures new in the summer transfer window, but opted to stay at the Etihad Stadium after Pellegrini helped the midfielder recover from the death of his younger brother Ibrahim last year.

In a book called Pellegrini's Methods, Toure opens up about his relationship with his manager, who was the main factor behind his decision not to leave City, according to the Daily Mail.

"I've stayed because of Manuel," Toure is quoted as saying. "He always talks to me, giving me some piece of advice. He has been aware of my life off the pitch. He has been like a father to me in difficult moments. I have never felt like that with another coach.

"Before this season, all the players had a talk and we promised the boss we would recover our level."

City are currently at the top of the Premier League table on level points with second-placed Arsenal.
