Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson will reportedly have to submit a transfer request if he wants to leave the Premier League champions.

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has reportedly been told that he will need to submit a transfer request if he wants to leave the club.

The Brazilian has been Man City's number-one shot-stopper since arriving from Benfica for £35m in the summer of 2017.

Ederson has kept 155 clean sheets in 332 competitive appearances in six years at the Etihad Stadium, helping the Citizens win 17 trophies.

Last term, the 30-year-old recorded 13 shutouts in 33 top-flight matches as Man City clinched a record fourth consecutive Premier League trophy.

Despite having two years left to run on his contract, Ederson has recently been linked with a move away from the English champions.

Man City keen for Ederson to stay

The Brazil international is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League and is believed to be willing to listen to any suitable proposals.

However, according to ESPN, Ederson will have to submit a transfer request if he wants to part ways with Man City this summer.

The report claims that the Citizens are keen to keep Ederson's services and will only entertain offers if the player makes it clear that he wants to try a fresh challenge.

Premier League champions City are also open to discussing a new contract to secure the goalkeeper's long-term future.

Man City facing goalkeeper uncertainty

While it remains to be seen whether Ederson stays with the club, Man City are also at risk of losing their second-choice goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

The former Bochum shot-stopper featured in 20 competitive matches in the 2023-24 season, largely due to a couple of injury issues that affected Ederson.

Although he has proven to be a capable deputy, Ortega remains Ederson's understudy and now faces a dilemma over whether to pursue regular game time elsewhere or remain Man City's backup goalkeeper.

The Citizens are currently at risk of losing the German on a free transfer when his current contract expires in June 2025.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola is hoping to keep the 31-year-old, who is yet to sign the fresh contract that the club has put on the table.
