Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted that he does not intend to offload Eliaquim Mangala despite the addition of defender Nicolas Otamendi.
The Argentine joined the Sky Blues from Valencia for a reported £32m on Thursday, with Mangala - a £30m signing from Porto last summer - expected to drop out of the first XI.
The 24-year-old occasionally struggled for the Citizens last term, but Pellegrini is adamant that Otamendi's arrival does not spell the end of the Frenchman's City career.
"There was a lot of talk of different options, the option that we wanted was to bring Otamendi here," the Chilean told reporters.
"That conversation may have had lots of options but finally I decided that Mangala must stay here with Otamendi."
Mangala has partnered captain Vincent Kompany in both of the club's Premier League outings thus far - both of which were 3-0 victories.
