Manchester United have failed to establish a lead over Wigan Athletic in the opening 45 minutes at Old Trafford.
The hosts had a golden chance to open the scoring on four minutes when Danny Welbeck was brought down by Ali Al-Habsi in the penalty area.
However, the Latics keeper, who was not booked for the foul, made amends for his error by saving Javier Hernandez's spot kick.
United have created a host of other scoring opportunities, but have been let down by poor finishing from Welbeck.
