Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton has admitted that he finds criticism of Wayne Rooney difficult to understand.
The Swans star identified the Manchester United striker as one of the finest players he has ever faced, and said that he doesn't know why the England captain comes under fire from certain quarters.
"Wayne Rooney is probably the hardest player I've played against," Britton told Sky Sports News.
"I play defensive midfield and he drops deeps and he's a nightmare to play against. He's always finding space, and he can pass, he can score goals, he's got a great touch. And I don't understand the stick he gets.
"When he plays for England, people have a go at him, I don't understand it. He's a fantastic player and he's captain for a reason."
Rooney scored as United beat Queens Park Rangers 4-0 on Sunday.
