Jesse Lingard: 'Manchester United dug deep against Arsenal'

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard hails "a great win" as his side claim a 3-1 victory at old rivals Arsenal.

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard has hailed "a great win" after his side claimed a 3-1 win over top-four rivals Arsenal at the Emirates this evening.

Antonio Valencia had Jose Mourinho's visitors in front with less than five minutes on the clock, Lingard then adding his first of the match just seven minutes later.

Alexandre Lacazette put the Gunners back in it early in the second half before Lingard restored his side's two-goal advantage just after the hour mark.

United found themselves down to 10 men when Paul Pogba saw red for a studs-up challenge on Hector Bellerin, but the Red Devils held firm in the closing stages to see out the win and move five points behind league leaders Manchester City.

"It was a great win," Lingard told Match of the Day. "I thought the lads dug deep, especially in the first half when we were under pressure. In the second half we had to regroup and reorganise.

"David de Gea kept us in it and he's one of the best keepers in world. It's great to have stable person behind us to keep that play up."

On Pogba's dismissal, which will see him miss the derby with their city rivals next weekend, he added: "It's a blow but the team have the players to adapt to that. Everyone's got to work hard to get in the starting XI."

Pogba is also expected to miss games against Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion.
