Manchester United say that the "internal disciplinary matter" regarding English forward Marcus Rashford "is now closed".

Manchester United have said that the "internal disciplinary matter" regarding Marcus Rashford "is now closed", with the forward set to be available for selection against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday.

During his press conference to preview Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round contest with Newport County, Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag said that Rashford was a major doubt for the fixture due to illness.

The club's academy product did not report for training on Friday due to his health, but it later became apparent that Rashford had been in Belfast, and he was pictured out on both Wednesday and Thursday evening.

Man United maintained that Rashford was not involved in the game with Newport due to illness, and Ten Hag said after his side's 4-2 win that he would "deal with" the situation.

There had been suggestions that the 26-year-old was facing disciplinary action, potentially leading to him being left out against Wolves in the team's next match on February 1.

Rashford was back at Carrington on Monday morning, though, and Man United released a statement on Monday evening confirming their stance.

The 20-time English champions claimed that the forward "has taken responsibility for his actions" and declared that the "internal disciplinary matter" was "now closed".

"Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed," read a short statement from the club.

Rashford is again set to train alongside his teammates on Tuesday with a view to being involved against Wolves, but it remains to be seen whether he is considered for a start.

The Englishman has found it difficult to make his mark for Ten Hag's side this season, only managing four goals and six assists in 26 appearances in all competitions.

However, he has found the back of the net in his last two Premier League appearances against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur.

After being late for a team meeting in December 2022, Rashford was left out of the starting XI for a Premier League game against Wolves, while he issued an apology to his manager earlier this season for having a birthday party hours after Man United's 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the league.

The forward signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford last summer, with his current terms due to run until the end of the 2027-28 campaign.
