Bayern Munich plan to hold talks with Thomas Tuchel over the possibility of the German remaining as head coach of the club beyond the summer, according to a report.

Bayern Munich are reportedly planning to hold talks with Thomas Tuchel over the possibility of the German remaining as head coach beyond the end of the campaign.

Earlier this year, Bayern released a statement revealing that the club and Tuchel had "jointly decided to end their working relationship" this summer.

At the time, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said that the Munich giants wanted "to pursue a new footballing direction with a new head coach for the 2024/25 season."

The Munich giants have been second-best to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this season, with Xabi Alonso's side comfortably winning the title.

However, Tuchel did manage to lead the Bavarians to the semi-finals of the Champions League, with their journey in the competition being ended by Real Madrid last week.

Tuchel 'could stay at Bayern this summer'

Hansi Flick is currently the favourite to replace Tuchel, while Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi is also being linked with the role at Allianz Arena.

There have been suggestions that Tuchel is wanted by Manchester United as a replacement for Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman potentially leaving Old Trafford this summer.

However, according to Football Insider, Bayern are planning to hold talks with Tuchel over what would be a surprise U-turn.

The report claims that the 50-year-old could now potentially stay at Allianz Arena for at least another season, with Bayern becoming frustrated in their pursuit of a successor.

Who else is in the frame to replace Ten Hag?

Tuchel, as it stands, remains the favourite for the position at Old Trafford, should the club decide to bring in a replacement for Ten Hag after the FA Cup final.

Gareth Southgate also continues to be linked with the role, but he is currently preparing to lead England into Euro 2024, so it is difficult to imagine the ex-Middlesbrough head coach arriving at the club.

Brentford's Thomas Frank is also allegedly being considered, while Graham Potter is an option despite failing to make an impression while in charge of Chelsea.

Man United have also allegedly been in touch with the representatives of Ipswich Town head coach Kieran McKenna to discuss a potential return to Old Trafford.

A decision from the club's new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be made in the coming weeks.
