Aymeric Laporte has sent a taunting message to 'neighbours' Manchester United, claiming Manchester City's success will have 'annoyed some people'.

The Citizens have been a dominant force on the domestic front over the last decade, and this term they are vying to clinch their fourth Premier League crown in five seasons.

Pep Guardiola's side have also reached the FA Cup semi-finals and will lock horns with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals this month.

Man United, meanwhile, are sitting 20 points behind their crosstown rivals in the Premier League, and they will end the current campaign without silverware, which will be their fifth year in succession without a single trophy.

Speaking to The Guardian, Laporte believes City's rivals are desperate for them to fail and feels the Red Devils, in particular, should concentrate on improving their performances on the pitch before mocking Guardiola's men.

"You notice that (people want Man City to fail). Maybe it's not that they [Man United] are tired of us but they don't think it's normal we always win," the Spain international said.

"If I'm not mistaken, we've won 11 trophies in four years (10 across the past four seasons, including three Premier League titles) that can annoy people, like our neighbours – who haven't won anything (since the Europa League in May 2017).

"They [Man United] have a lot of supporters, we're in the same city. It's hard [for them] to understand. But there's only one winner. They've spent a lot of money too."

Since joining from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018, Laporte has made 142 appearances across all competitions for Man City and has won each of the 10 aforementioned trophies.
