Paul Scholes fears for Manchester United's top-four chances

Paul Scholes expects Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal to finish above his former club Manchester United in third and fourth places.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has tipped Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal to hold off his former side in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

The Red Devils have gone off the boil over the past month, taking just three points from the last nine on offer in the top flight.

United have lost back-to-back away matches, to Arsenal on March 10 and Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, and find themselves down in sixth place.

Arsenal and Spurs are two and three points clear respectively, while Chelsea are five points better off in third place after playing a game more than those around them.

Scholes fears that United may miss out on Champions League football next season, telling the Premier League Show: "I think looking at the fixtures you'd be fancying Arsenal.

"But Watford away, Wolves away difficult, Leicester away difficult, Burnley away – they're all difficult games at this stage of the season especially when the prize is so big.

"Even look at United's fixtures, tough fixtures. I think they'll be okay against West Ham but you've got Everton away, City at home, Chelsea at home, the last two [against Huddersfield and Cardiff City] they should win.

"Chelsea as well have Liverpool and Man United away. Tottenham have City away but other than that you'd fancy Tottenham to finish strongly."

A number of United's first-team players reportedly face a 25% pay cut if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.
