Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly suffer a setback in their pursuit of Southampton's highly-rated youngster Tyler Dibling.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly suffered a significant setback to their hopes of signing Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling.

The 18-year-old has been one of the standout players in Southampton's difficult start to the 2024-25 Premier League season.

Dibling featured as a substitute in the first three matches of the season, before he forced his way into the lineup for the home meeting with Manchester United.

The teenager showcased his nimble footwork to win a penalty against the Red Devils, only to see Cameron Archer miss the subsequent spot kick in the 3-0 defeat.

Dibling went on to score his first Premier League goal in a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town, before retaining his starting spot for games against Bournemouth and Arsenal.

Man United, Tottenham suffer setback in Dibling pursuit

Having impressed in the early stages of his Premier League career, Dibling is already being linked with a move away from St Mary's.

Man United and Tottenham are said to be among a host of Premier League clubs that are weighing up a future move for the Southampton youngster.

According to The Mirror, Southampton are set to hand Dibling a bumper new contract in a bid to ward off his potential suitors.

The report claims that the Saints are keen to extend his contract beyond the end of his current deal which expires in the summer of 2026.

Southampton are willing to offer Dibling a significant pay rise, with the potential new deal dealing a blow to Man United and Tottenham's hopes of securing his signature.

Can the Saints keep hold of their highly-rated youngster?

Saints boss Russell Martin has previously stated that the club are in a "strong position", insisting that they have no intention of selling Dibling in the near future.

Tying the attacker down to a new deal will only strengthen Southampton's negotiating position, making it tougher for his admirers to strike a deal.

However, there is always the possibility that a club could make a significant offer which may be difficult to refuse.

One thing is for sure, Dibling will continue to generate interest and increase his price tag if he continues to deliver impressive performances for the South-coast side.
