Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly make a late bid to prevent Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani from joining Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly made a late effort to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani.

Having indicated that he has no desire to pen a new contract at the Parc des Princes, Cavani is allegedly on the brink of confirming a switch to Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.

With less than six months remaining on his deal, the Uruguay international has been able to hold discussions with the Spaniard giants ahead of a move on a free transfer.

However, according to L'Equipe, United and Chelsea have indicated that they hold an interest in signing the 32-year-old, either in January or during the summer.

Both of the Premier League giants are looking to strengthen their forward lines in the coming months, making Cavani an attractive option.

Despite being able to sign Cavani for nothing in six months time, paying a cut-price fee before the end of January may make more sense to the English clubs.
