Manchester United are reportedly preparing to press ahead with their interest in Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount.
For a number of weeks, speculation has persisted that the England international could eventually ply his trade at Old Trafford starting from next season.
The Blues academy graduate, who has been linked with a wide array of clubs, allegedly views the Red Devils as his preferred option should he depart Stamford Bridge this summer.
That is deemed to be highly likely due to just over a year remaining on his contract and the relevant parties currently not discussing fresh terms due to previous failed attempts.
With Chelsea needing to boost their financial position before June 30, it had been expected that they would have made progress in reducing their wage bill and squad numbers at this stage.

Despite daily rumours over a number of players, it has only been revealed that Denis Zakaria and Joao Felix will return to parent clubs Juventus and Atletico Madrid respectively.
Nevertheless, aware that their best chance of agreeing a deal with Chelsea is before the end of this month, United are seemingly ready to spring into action.
According to Sky Sports News, United are expected to lodge their first formal offer within the coming days.
Head coach Erik ten Hag has made Mount one of his priority transfer targets ahead of 2023-24, the player able to be deployed in a number of roles in midfield and the final third.

The report adds, though, that United have no intention of overpaying for Mount, something which leaves a deal being agreed very much in the balance.
United are said to be willing to pay in the region of £50m, whereas it has been suggested that Chelsea continue to insist on at least £70m.
As it stands, it is unclear whether Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital have any intention of eventually softening their stance, something which may prove to be to their advantage as they bid to complete their own signings.
Although Mount has just endured a poor campaign, he still has 33 goals and 37 assists from his 195 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions.
