Manchester United reportedly turned down the chance to sign Harry Maguire for just £15m last summer.
Maguire emerged as one of United's primary transfer targets during the recent window as Jose Mourinho looked to bolster his defensive options, but Leicester City refused to sell the centre-back.
The Foxes were reportedly holding out for a bid of around £75m for the England international this summer - five times as much as United were quoted by Hull City one year ago, according to The Telegraph.
Leicester paid Hull £12m rising to £17m for Maguire's services, but his stock has since risen dramatically following impressive Premier League and World Cup campaigns.
United ultimately failed to bring in a new central defender during the transfer window, despite reports also linking them with Toby Alderweireld, Diego Godin and Yerry Mina.
Maguire could feature for Leicester this evening when they take on United at Old Trafford in the opening match of the 2018-19 Premier League season.
