Manchester United's hopes of signing Jadon Sancho this summer could reportedly be scuppered by Borussia Dortmund's asking price for the winger.
The 20-year-old has emerged as one of world football's most valuable players following another prolific campaign, which has seen him directly contribute to 30 goals in just 23 Bundesliga appearances.
Dortmund are hopeful of selling Sancho for a fee in excess of £100m, but accept that they may be forced to dip below the nine-figure sum due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the Evening Standard reports that United may even struggle to raise £60m-£70m for the England international, which would be significantly below Dortmund's asking price.
In that event, the German outfit are willing to keep Sancho for an extra year in the hope that he will fetch a bigger transfer fee next summer, when the market is expected to have recovered somewhat.
Sancho, who joined Dortmund for only £8m three years ago, will be back in action this weekend as the Bundesliga becomes the first major league to return after lockdown.
