Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has rubbished speculation that David de Gea could be tempted away from the club.
Recent reports have suggested that the Spanish keeper had been the subject of interest from Real Madrid, who were said to be readying a summer bid for his services.
However, Schmeichel has insisted that United will "build around" the 24-year-old, rather than sell him.
"[Selling De Gea is] not going to happen. Without a shadow of a doubt, he is our best performer and has been for the last 18 months. You don't take your best players out and that is not the club that Manchester United is," he told Soccer AM.
"You keep your best players and build around that. He's done tremendously well and the whole rebuild [of the team] should start around him."
De Gea joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and he has gone on to make 139 appearances for the club.
